Short history of hybrid cars

Posted by admin on Oct-2-2011 under HHO Fuel Cell

The history of hybrid cars is immersed in controversy. Not so much for the product itself, but for the technology it uses. Is it old like the conception of wheel itself, or is it a recent construct of idea, as recent as the embryonic stem cell technology? Your take. Read on.

First of, a hybrid car is a vehicle that uses on-board RESS, or rechargeable energy storage system. This is coupled with a fueled propulsion power source for the automobile’s propulsion. Hybrid car is low-gas consuming vehicle, therefore, a low-polluting vehicle.

The last character is particularly important because of the growing consciousness of the people worldwide on the need to conserve the environment.

History points to the clear difference of hybrid with all-electric cars. Electric cars use batteries charged by an external source. On this note, almost all hybrids, save for those considered as mild-hybrid, still need gasoline and diesel as their fuel source. Other fuels are also available in the form of ethanol or other plant based oils. Hybrid vehicles also use hydrogen gas occasionally.

But what’s in the history of hybrid cars?

The history of hybrid cars is closely intertwined with the history of automobile itself. In 1898, Ferdinand Porsche, a young Czechoslovakian, designed the Lohner-Porsche carriage, a series-hybrid vehicle that utilized a one-cylinder gasoline internal combustion engine. This engine can spun a generator which powered four wheel-mounted electric motors.

The car was eventually presented at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. The said automobile, capable of up to 56 km/h (35 mph) fast destroyed several Austrian speed records. In 1901, it won the Exelberg Rally, with Porsche himself driving the car. Over Mass production during this time was yet to be developed, but for Porsche’s future-looking design, 300 units of this model were sold to the public.

The first Porsche model however, technically speaking as we know Porsch today, was a hand-built aluminum prototype, and was completed on June 8, 1948.

The development of the first transistor-based electric car in 1959, the Henney Kilowatt, heralded a new development in the history of automobiles as a whole, and that of history of hybrid cars in particular. This transistor-based electric car, paved the way for the electronic speed control. Ultimately, this made the road for the development of modern hybrid electric cars possible.

The Henney Kilowatt was considered as the first modern electric car. It was a product of collaborative work between the National Union Electric Company, Henney Coachworks, Renault, and the Eureka Williams Company. Whilst the sales of the Kilowatt during this time were far from encouraging, its development served as prototype for the other automobiles down the history line of hybrid cars.

Between the 1960s and 1970s, another prototype of the earlier electric-hybrid vehicle was built by Victor Wouk. Wouk is among the scientists involved with the development of the Henney Kilowatt automobile. For this work, some historians bestowed onto him the honor being the Godfather of the Hybrid hybrid cars.

For his pioneering work, Wouk installed a sample electric-hybrid drivetrain into a 1972 Buick Skylark, courtesy GM for the 1970 Federal Clean Car Incentive Program. The program was later axed by the EPA in 1976. Hybrid enthusiast and supporters continued building hybrids automobiles. These models however, were not put into mass production.

In the fading years of the twentieth century however, the history of hybrid cars will take on a new course.

1978, the regenerative-braking hybrid, was developed by Electrical Engineer David Arthurs. The said regenerative-braking is to become the core design concept of most hybrids, currently available in the market. The first attempt of Arthurs used off-the shelf components, including an Opel GT. But the voltage controller that links to the battery motor and the DC generator belonged to Arthurs.

Fast forward in the 1990s

The history of hybrid cars took the final step to modernity in terms of mass production during the Bill Clinton administration. Clinton initiated the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles program in September, 1993, that involved the Department of Energy, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, USCAR, and various governmental agencies. The partnership was tasked to engineer a modern efficient and clean vehicle.

In 2001, this program was replaced George W. Bush’s own hydrogen focused FreedomCAR initiative. The focus of the FreedomCAR initiative was to fund research that are considered high risk for the private sector to engage in. The long term purpose of which is the development and production of petroleum emission.

The success of hybrid vehicles in terms of mass production however, became a reality, when the Japanese car manufacturer entered the American market. This is when the history of hybrid cars finally took its modern development. Honda Insight and Toyota Prius became the modern progenitor of modern day hybrid vehicle available today in the market.

Good News: You just bought a new car.

Bad News: Gas Prices are increasing day by day. There would come a time that you will surpass the amount that you paid for your car for all the gasoline costs. This will just be in a matter of months.

Solution: Alternative fuel

To put a solution to your problem, water to gas conversion kits are readily available in the market. They claimed to provide better mileage than that of ordinary gasoline. It is very much inexpensive and easy to install.

Different company players for the water to gas industry are providing easy step by step installation guides to assist in installing this water to gas converter in your car engines. After installing it, it does not mean that water will totally replace gas as means of fuel. Water would be a supplement to gasoline. You just have to make sure that you are putting in cup of water weekly 3 cups of distilled or tap water within 3-6 weeks in the quart-sized container under the hood of your car. Just don’t forget to put the catalyst which is baking soda also in the said container. Pronto! What you have is a car that runs on water and gas.

This is not the first time that water was tried or used for an alternative fuel. Alternative fuels are also known as non-conventional fuels. They are materials or substances that can be used as a fuel aside from the usual fuel that we used like petroleum, coal, propane and natural gas. Several sources of alternative fuel are the renewable energy that comes from wind power, solar power, tidal power, geothermal power and hydropower. Biomass, which is the energy coming from living and recently dead biological material, serves also as a source of alternative fuel.

Naturally, when gasoline prices rise up, people think of alternative fuel source. There would be cars that run natural gas or NGV. It is fuel efficient, environmentally friendly and offers a relatively low cost of ownership. Electric vehicles (EV) are powered by fuel cells. While hybrid cars uses two or more distinct power source to propel the vehicle. A mo-ped (motorized pedal bike) can be classified as a hybrid vehicle since it combines the power of a gasoline engine and the pedal power of the rider.
There are also flexible fuel vehicles or FFVs.

They are capable of operating on gasoline, E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) or even a mixture of both. Flexible fuel vehicles contain one duelling system which is made up of ethanol compatible components. Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has been used in vehicles since 1920. There are dedicated propane vehicles designed to run only on propane. While there are bi-propane vehicles. These vehicles have two separate fuelling systems that enable the vehicle to use either propane or gasoline.

Propane powered engines are said to have a life of up to two times that of gasoline powered engines. Lower maintenance costs are also prime reason behind propane’s popularity.

There are lost of alternative fuel choices in the market. It could be using the water to gas conversion system that does not require you to change your engine or overhauling your whole vehicle to make way for a hybrid car. Main thing is we choose something that is suitable for our needs and meets our objectives and standards.

Understanding how a Fuel Cell Generator Works

A fuel cell is able to convert a source of power by creating electricity. It requires a fuel source and an oxidant that will create an electrolyte. They are able to continue to operate as long as there is the right balance of ingredients maintained. There are many different combination’s that can be used. The fuel source here is hydrogen and oxygen as the oxidant.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology allows for many variations. Yet all of them then contain three different segments. They are the anode, electrolyte, and cathode. There is a chemical reaction that will occur within these three different segments. That is what will create the electricity – known as the electrical load.

The anode is a catalyst and it will oxidize the hydrogen. The electrolyte allows the ions to pass through it. They are able to create the electric current to the cathode. Once there the ions are rejoined with the electrodes and then to the oxygen. The levels of such exchanges have to be carefully balanced.

Due to the liquid elements of hydrogen fuel cell technology there are concerns with temperature. They can’t be used effectively in temperatures under 32 degrees Fahrenheit or they would freeze. This is one of the biggest barriers to using hydrogen fuel cells successfully in many areas. There is research to try to find ways around this, perhaps changing the types of ingredients used to create the hydrogen fuel.

The other aspect is that the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology is expensive. It costs about $1,000 per kilowatt of electric output. However, there are plenty of studies out there working on ways to reduce the cost. The use of carbon silk may allow for 30% less platinum to be used. However, it won’t compromise the overall performance so that could be one possible solution.

As you can see the hydrogen fuel cell technology is very complex. Yet there are experts out there with the knowledge to use it successfully. They want to see our future include the use of hydrogen power for vehicles. This will be very good due to the fact that it will save money. It also means less dependency on foreign countries for oil. At the same time we will be reducing the toxins released into our environment due to vehicle emissions.

Understanding how a Fuel Cell Generator Works

If you aren’t familiar with a hydrogen booster, they have been around for a very long time. The first one was introduced in 1918. You may be asking yourself if they are so great then why aren’t people selling them all over the place? The answer is complex and has several parts.

First, the entire process is very complex in nature. You have to have a solid understanding of science to work with the ingredients necessary. Second, the cost of these hydrogen booster products can be very expensive to create. Most people don’t have the capital to put into the overall testing and production steps. Getting funding from the government or even private individuals for such a project can be very difficult to accomplish.

Electricity in the vehicle has to be used to break down the hydrogen to create water. This process is known as HHO. There are issues including the proper air and gas mixture to think about. The goal though is to create a fuel source that you pay less for. At the same time less pollution is going to be coming from your car when you drive it when hydrogen power is in place.

Don’t be surprised if you start to hear more about getting a hydrogen booster for your vehicle. The technology we have today continues to move forward. There are still many unanswered questions when it comes to the use of hydrogen power. However, there are also many answers we have. Many experts are confident that they can solve the mysteries and offer a hydrogen booster that gets results.

You will find quite a few hydrogen booster products out there on the market. It is wise to look at them though and find out what they offer before you buy one. Many of them do offer plenty of benefits. Others though are poorly made and not worth your investment. Only buy a hydrogen booster that offers you a money back guarantee. By doing so you can get back what you invest if you find it won’t work for you like it was intended.

A Hydro Car uses Alternative Fuel

There are many different types of resources that can be used to create hydro power. The studies of it allow for many different variations to be considered. Experts want to make the most effective type of hydro power with the least overhead expense. They want these hydro car offers to reduce emissions and also to be very safe for people to drive.

Right now though they are up against a wall in many areas. For example they are limited with how to store the hydro fuel. The tanks that would have to be placed into the engine are very heavy. Methods to get more fuel stored in less space have to be looked at to make this type of alternative fuel resource work.

A hydro car would have to be able to successful continue using the fuel source in cold weather. That could be difficult due to the liquid elements freezing up. The process of trying to eliminate them from the equation about what will be used for the fuel cells to activate though is something that continues to be looked at.

It is possible that some type of thermostat can be put in place that will keep the hydro car fuel cells from getting too cold. This could be a practical solution but one that would only really work with the vehicle on. Trying to figure out how it would continue to cycle with the vehicle turned off is still out of reach. Of course testing is always being done and new ideas emerge continually that can be evaluated so they aren’t giving up on such an idea.

Securing funding for creating a hydro car is an obstacle too. Getting passed the red tape in the political arena takes a very long time. There are many people pushing for alternative fuel but just as many that are pushing against it. With the economy in a crunch getting government funding for such projects is extremely tough. There simply isn’t enough money to go around.

There are some private sectors though that continue to try to give money fro this particular cost. Some of them include the various vehicle manufacturers out there. They want to be part of the technology that can offer the hydro car. Right now the cost of creating prototype vehicles though is more than $200,000. Therefore it is hard to have too many of them for testing various methods.

Even though the advances with the hydro car have been slow moving, progress is being made. There have been many challenges and with them comes new information and new testing. It is believed that these vehicles will one day allow us to severe ties with countries and our dependence on the oil they sale. The other benefit would be to reduce the problems with our ozone layer.

Run a Car on Water

Lets talk a little about the Hydrogen Fueled cars and your options!

We all know how much control the oil companies have on us all. This is why many are turning to alternative fuel sources. These alternative fuel sources are a way of saving money at the pump, protecting the environment and loosening the grip the oil companies have on us all. Its now known that the hydrogen fueled cars is one possibility. Many hydrogen fueled cars systems come in several different varieties. You could run your car strictly on hydrogen fuel or you could convert your car to a hydrogen gas hybrid. Another point on the hydrogen fueled cars would be that these vehicles are still undergoing strict testing procedures for how dangerous hydrogen it self is. As soon as these hydrogen fueled cars finish their testing phase and become available to consumers. They are likely to be very cost restrictive to many consumers. However the hydrogen gas hybrids engine kits are widely available on the market and may be placed on any vehicle currently on the road today. The IRS is giving consumers a sizable tax break just for using the hybrid hydrogen gas engine kits. Which would give you immediate savings today along with major fuel cost savings for the life of your car.

This technology is far from new technology, the first theories where originally tossed around since the 1800′s, from a Swiss inventor named Isaac De Rivaz who created the very first automobile of which was powered by nothing but water. Thus creating the very first hydrogen fueled cars. While gasoline was yet to be discovered when the first automobile was originally built.

You are probably curious as to how Hydrogen fueled cars systems really work. Hydrogen as we all know is an extremely dangerous combustible gas. However we will be using the hydrogen with in water to make this process completely safe for everyone to use as a combustible fuel source. Just go back to your science classes in grade school. We where all taught that water is made up of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen which is why we call water H2O. By using the three molecules which make water are separated you make a fuel called HHO or hydroxy fuel this fuel is three times more powerful then regular gas. By using an electrolyte, water and the cars battery we can easily separate the three elements of water into a safe usable but powerful fuel additive.

By recycling these non-combustible gasses, and the stabilization process, we are able to run a cars internal combustion engine on water. The whole process allows us to power our cars from a fuel that is equal to and greater than that of the power of gasoline. While the hydrogen fueled cars will be providing their own non-combustible gasses which will be derived from the combustion process. This non-combustible gas is what we call air. This will allow hydrogen fueled cars engine temperature to stay the same as it allows the process to be obtained from our current engines with out having to change any parts at all. By this process any car on the road today can use a hydrogen fueled cars conversion kit to harness the power of HHO gas. Making it possible for car owners to not only generate the power needed to power their vehicle but also increase gas mileage. Thus in turn lowering the average consumers fuel cost. Once the initial cost and the Hydrogen fueled cars  conversion kit is installed in the vehicle you will be getting immediate savings for the life of your car/cars.

With less then one litter of water you will be able to produce more then 2,000 gallons of Hydoxy fuel. This makes hydrogen fueled cars systems the least expensive gas powered cars on the market. Not to mention one of the most reliable energy efficient vehicles on the market today. They provide a clean alternative to the gasoline powered engines currently in use today

Run a Car on Water

I am sure many of you already know about the technology of hho and hydrogen fuel cars. I am betting on the other hand you are like many and do not know hho is what is being used to build today’s hydrogen fuel cars. By the end of this post you will know how to use hho to turn your current car into a hydrogen fuel car. We will try to give you as much detail as possible about using HHO, how to turn your vehicles in to hybrid hydrogen fuel cars.

HHO How To Build Hydrogen Fuel CarsFirst thing you must know is why I used the word hybrid and what a hybrid car really is. A hybrid car is really just a simple term used to express that the vehicle is using 2 seperate fuel sources. One fuel source is electric and the other most of the time is gas. However we want a hybrid hydrogen fuel cars. There for we need to us hho and gas.

You might be asking what is hho. HHO is again just a simplified term for expressing the elements of water. As we all know there is only two elements to water. These elements are two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. Once again we all know hydrogen is most abundant resources we have on this planet. Since water alone contains two parts hydrogen we can use that to make the hydrogen needed to power our cars.

HHO Electroysis ProcessTo do this we use a simple electrolysis which we have all done in school at one time or another. What is needed to make the hho is water, baking soda or other type of potassium nitrate and a power source. Since we will be using this hho gas in our new hydrogen fuel cars. Our power source will be the cars battery. Now we have made these hho devices out of mason jars. Although using the mason jar you will not get the amount of hho required to see any type of boost in our cars cas mileage. There for we mostly use pvc piping to build our hho fuel cell to help power our current hydrogen fuel cars.

HHO How To Make HHO Work In Your EngineIf you would like to see an example of how this works. Take any clear glass and fill it with water. Once you have you clear glass of water add about a table spoon of backing soda to it. Then take any 9 volt battery and place it in the glass. You will notice bubbles coming up to the surface of the water. This is the hho gas. On one terminal of the battery is the hydrogen gas and the other is the oxygen. Simply feeding this hho gas into our cars air intake system. We will instantly turn any vehicles into a hybrid hydrogen fuel cars. There will need to be some slight modification to the O2 sensors but nothing a little tin foil can’t fix. This only needs to be done so that we draw in more air then gas. Since we are now using hydrogen as an added fuel source for our car. Thus increasing gas mileage, performance, emissions and most importantly helping to save the environment at the same time.

Honea-Path-Police Hydrogen Fuel CarsWhile we did not go into full details as to how to build hydrogen fuel cars. Yet you should now have a pretty good idea as to how hho works and how you can benefit from using it as an added fuel source to your new hydrogen fuel cars.  If you would like more information on hho how to build hydrogen fuel cars simply leave a comment. Or if you think you are ready to begin designing your own hho hydrogen fuel car. We recommend you pick up one of our top guides to guide you through the process of building a hydrogen generator.
